About

Julia Markoe

Hi there! A bit about me...

Originally from Maine and Minnesota, I graduated from the University of St Andrews in Scotland with a degree in Art History in 2016. After returning home to the US I lived in Georgia, Wyoming, Florida, and New York City before settling down in Boston, which I'm now thrilled to call home. Coming to doula work from a very different career field, I am so grateful to all the wonderful doulas from whom I've had the opportunity to learn. I completed my DONA Birth Doula Training with Rina Ríos in April 2018 and expanded my knowledge and skills through two years in the Doula Mentor Program with Tanya Wills through Manhattan Birth.

I'm passionate about the benefits of nursing, for both baby and parent, and particularly enjoy supporting postpartum families throughout their nursing journey whether their goal is to nurse for a month, a year, or beyond! I completed my Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) training in April 2019  and am so excited to be able to add these skills to my repertoire to help support postpartum clients. Icontinue to love staying up to date on the evolving field lactation support through continuing education and in person lactation support  with clients!

I've completed additional trainings in Comforting Touch for doulas, rebozo, supporting VBAC, supporting LGBTQ+ families, infant development, baby wearing, and Infant, Child, and Adult CPR among others.

My work as a doula is centered around my belief that every new parent deserves to be well cared for during the childbearing year. My postpartum support is tailored to fit your family's individual needs and my ultimate goal is to ensure that you have the support you need to feel confident and cared for as you adjust to life with a new little one! Whether this means lactation support, helping with laundry or meal prep, or simply holding the baby so you can take a shower, I meet you where you are and offer non-judgmental support and encouragement throughout the postpartum period. You can learn a bit more about how other families have used postpartum support on my Services page, or send me a message and we can chat about your vision and goals for your postpartum period.

When not ‘doula-ing’ and learning everything I can about birth work, my favorite activities are reading, hiking/camping, swimming, visiting Boston's amazing museums, exploring New England's beaches with my husband, Jonathan, and playing with our two cats, Georgia O'Keeffe and Edward Hopper!
